Benefits Impact on Full-Time to Part-Time Change

If you’re thinking about changing to part-time status, you need to understand how your benefits and the amount you pay for those benefits may be impacted. When your weekly hours are reduced to between 20 and 29 hours, there are impacts on your benefits. Use the chart below as a high-level summary of part-time benefit plans (some benefit plans may not apply to you) and how your coverage differs on a part-time schedule.   • Impact to Benefits – Salaried Employees

    Medical

    Keep coverage in the same plan option.

    The amount you’ll pay will increase because K-C contributes less towards the cost of your coverage based on your part-time scheduled hours.

    If you’re eligible for the tobacco-free discount or the working spouse/partner surcharge, the discount/surcharge will continue to apply.

    The new payroll deduction will take effect the first of the month following your change to part-time status.

    Dental

    Keep coverage in the same plan option.

    The amount you’ll pay will increase because K-C contributes less toward the cost of your coverage based on your part-time scheduled hours.

    Vision

    Time Off

    Personal Floating and Company-Designated Holidays:No Change.

    Vacation: No change to your allotment in the year you move to part-time status. Allotments are pro-rated for the upcoming year based on your work schedule as of December 31.

    Flex Days: Your days are forfeited and a refund is issued.

    Parental Leave, Sick Leave, Caregiver Leave, Military Leave, and Jury Duty: You’ll continue to be eligible for these leave benefits as outlined in the policies.

    If enrolled in optional coverage, you may keep coverage in the same plan option and at the same coverage amount.

    For Employee Life and BTA, your coverage amount will be adjusted the following year to reflect your new part-time base pay. Coverage amounts are calculated on your base pay as of the previous July 1 or the date you first become eligible for coverage, if later than July 1.

    Your cost for optional coverages is adjusted each January 1 based on pay and age changes.

    Disability

    Short-Term Disability (STD): Your salary continuation will be based on your new part-time pay amount.

    Long-Term Disability (LTD): Keep coverage in the same plan option and at the same coverage amount for the rest of the year in which you change to part-time status.

    Accident Insurance, Critical Illness, & Hospital Indemnity

    Keep coverage in the same plan option.

    401(k) & Profit Sharing Plan (PSP)

    Any contribution you’ve elected to make through payroll deductions will continue.

    K-C matching contributions will continue to be dollar-for-dollar on the first 5% you contribute.

    The following time off benefits will be replaced by a Paid Time Off (PTO) allotment:

    The amount of your PTO allotment will be based on your years of service. In the year you move to part-time status, your PTO allotment will be reduced by the number of vacation hours used year to date.

    Company-Designated Holidays: You’ll be eligible for 4 hours of holiday pay per holiday.

    Parental and Military Leave: You’ll continue to be eligible for leave benefits as outlined in the policies

Making Changes to Your Benefits Coverage

When your status changes from full-time to part-time, an enrollment event will be generated on Empyrean’s website kcbenefitcompass.com. You must make your election changes within 30 days of the status change by completing the enrollment event online or by calling the Empyrean Service Center through the K-C Benefits Information Line at 800-551-2333 and selecting the Health & Welfare option.
